Chair Rescue

The Tale of a Rescued Chair

There once was a chair. It was a nice chair - beautiful wood. However, the chair wasn't pleasant to sit on and it's covering dated it terribly. Oh yeah, and it had wheels on it's front 2 legs.
You get the picture. I LOVE this chair, but it needs new padding and something other than that ugly 70s thing to cover it. Who thought that was a good idea anyways? And wheels? On the front legs only? Really?

And THIS was the cushion....not much for comfort were they?

(NOTE: I'm bad at this whole taking pictures of the entire process thing. I replaced the cushion. Forgot to take a pic of that. I touched up some scratches on the chair. Forgot to take a pic of that.)

Wednesday Hodgepodge - April 13, 2011

It's Hodgepodge time! Click on the logo above to join us!

1. Would you rather talk to everyone at a crowded party for a short time or have a significant conversation with two people?
I would much prefer to have a significant conversation with one person than mingling. I'm not really the mingling type. Most days I'm not even sure that I like people in general. Me even being at a crowded party would be a stretch.

2. What objects do you remember from your parent's living room?
At the house that I grew up in, paneling - one wall had a light wood color with deer and trees on it, the other 3 walls were a darker brown. At one point, I remember a huge fish aquarium. There was always a recliner (a must for dad). Smaller things? My mom LOVES nick-nacks. I HATE THEM because I always had to dust around them all.

3. Do you hog the bed? Steal the covers? Snore?
No, I don't hog the bed. No, I don't steal the covers. Yes, I snore. :-(
I wish I didn't but I don't know what to do about it.

4. Speaking of Easter dinner....what is your favorite way to cook/eat lamb? Or does just the thought of that make you squeamish? If you're not cooking lamb what will be your entree du jour on Easter Sunday?
Lamb? Hmm...I don't think I've ever had lamb. It doesn't make me squeamish, though. I've just never had it. I'm not sure what we will be having for Easter dinner. My guess is that we will be going to Aunt Sandy's and that she and Uncle Jason will be cooking.

5. Let's throw some politics into this week's mix-oooohhh...Do you know the whereabouts of your birth certificate and when was the last time you had to produce it to prove you're you?
I actually DO! It's in a safe at my house, but I honestly don't remember the last time I had to show it to anyone.

6. As a child, how did people describe you?
Teacher's Pet. The one who could be sent outside and never get dirty. Miss Perfection. I was the child who didn't like to be in trouble and always got straight A's. (I know, I know...over-achiever)

7. What do you complain about the most?
It depends on the day. Heat and humidity is going to be the biggest complaint real soon. I really don't like that part of summer. I HATE to sweat!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I've decided that I would much rather someone be honest when I ask how they're doing than give me a generic 'fine' or 'good' but when they are (because it happens so infrequently) I sometimes don't really know how to respond. Am I alone here?

Stronger

My song pick of the week:

Stronger
by Mandisa

Hey, heard you were up all night
Thinking about how your world ain't right
And you wonder if things will ever get better
And you're asking why is it always raining on you
When all you want is just a little good news
Instead of standing there stuck out in the weather

Oh, don't hang your head
It's gonna end
God's right there
Even if it's hard to see Him
I promise you that He still cares

When the waves are taking you under
Hold on just a little bit longer
He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger
The pain ain't gonna last forever
And things can only get better
Believe me
This is gonna make you stronger
Believe me, this is gonna make you stronger

Try and do the best you can
Hold on and let Him hold your hand
And go on and fall into the arms of Jesus
Oh, lift your head it's gonna end
God's right there
Even when you just can't feel Him
I promise you that He still cares

When the waves are taking you under
Hold on just a little bit longer
He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger
The pain ain't gonna last forever
And things can only get better
Believe me
This is gonna make you stronger
Believe me, this is gonna make you stronger

'Cause if He started this work in your life
He will be faithful to complete it
If only you believe it
He knows how much it hurts
And I'm sure that He's gonna help you get through this

When the waves are taking you under
Hold on just a little bit longer
He know that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger
The pain ain't gonna last forever
In time it's gonna get better
Believe me
This is gonna make you stronger

Prayer Monday - April 11, 2011

Ok, so my morning started with me cracking an egg and it going all over the counter rather than in the bowl...that sort of explains how my entire week has been. Nothing really going 'right' - whatever that means. Many things just feel 'off'. Perhaps because I'm tired or perhaps because I'm just frustrated in general, but I really would like for things to resume to a 'not-so-off' state.

My Requests:
~ My Uncle had to go back to Vanderbilt this week. Parts of his body are rejecting the stem cells - his lungs, his skin - they're introducing new treatment. Please pray that it works. And please pray for my aunt. I know that she's exhausted and incredibly frustrated.

~ Please pray that God will help Precious and I navigate the unknown. We're currently just trying to be still and know that HE is God, but I was not blessed with patience so being still is difficult for me. Pray that God will strengthen our faith and reveal Himself in ways we could never imagine and that we would be able to focus on where, when and how we are supposed to be serving.

~ My dad has some health issues and we're possibly looking at spinal fusion surgery. Please pray for him and his doctors.

~ Lil bro is still running hard and fast from God. Please keep praying. I totally believe that God is moving and is pursuing him, but lil bro can be a bit stubborn (he might get that from me...just sayin').

Prayer
God, I need help focusing on You and Your purposes in this life. Everything feels 'off' and messy and I don't like it...mostly because I feel like it's partly this way because I'm not focusing on YOU the way that I should. As each woman who participates here goes through this week, I pray for each to have a servant's heart and to be able to focus on their purposes for this season in their lives. I pray that You would then equip each of us for the service You have called us to and for the journeys we are on. God grant us strength to get through each day and peace to endure those things that would typically 'rattle our cages'. God, You are good and I pray for nothing less than Your best for each of these women.

Amen
